Care that hits home

EP’s mother had noticed her five-year-old son struggling with his speech and falling behind where his older siblings had been at the same age. Concerned about this, she reached out to her Aboriginal Health Service, who referred the family to Ear Foundation.

Getting all the family to the Earbus location was a major challenge for EP’s mother, so our outreach nurse and audiologist packed up their portable equipment for a home visit. In their living room, the team assessed EP alongside his two-year-old sibling, who was also showing early signs of hearing trouble.

The team discovered an acute ear infection and persistent fluid behind both eardrums were causing EP’s hearing loss, muffling the world around him during a crucial stage of his speech development.

With a nurse on site, treatment started immediately with antibiotics, nasal spray, and a clear follow-up plan, all without mum having to leave home.

By giving families the option of bringing ear care directly to their door, Ear Foundation removes the burden of travel and gives parents fast answers. It ensures children like EP get the critical and early support they need to get their hearing back and thrive.
